Strange Creatures - Yakalo

The Yakalo is is what you get when you breed a yak with an American bison.

Yakalos are not very common except for in Alberta, Canada. The farmers there prefer the Yakalo over regular cattle for their beef and milk because the Yakalo are able to withstand the harsh Canadian winters a lot better than other cattle can.

Weird Animals - Cama

Have you ever heard of a Cama? the first Cama was produced by the Camel Reproduction Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on January 14, 1998. It was created by artificially inseminating a female lama with the sperm of a male camel.

The center had to do it this way because the breeding of a male lama to a female camel proved unsuccessful, and the male camels were too large to breed with a female camel. So far the center has created four Camas, but the results have been disappointing.

The whole reason that the Cama was created was because the camel has very bad behavior and extremely poor temperament, where as the lama is just the opposite. So they thought if they created this hybrid animal that they could get the size and strength of the camel and the behavior of the lama. Unfortunately this was not the case because the Cama has just as poor a temperament as the camel.

Strange Animals - Wolphin

Here is a one of those weird animals that I still find hard to believe. It is not that the two animals are that much different, I just always figured that one would kill the other. This strange creature is called a Wolphin.

The Wolphin is what happens when a female bottle nosed dolphin breeds with a male false killer whale. These amazing creatures are pretty rare with only two in captivity and bot of these weird animals are located in the Sea Life Park in Hawaii.

Strange Hybrid Animals - Zorse

The Zorse is another hybrid animals just like the Zonkey but instead of breeding a donkey and a zebra they take a male Zebra and breed it with a female horse. This hybrid animal has the physical appearance of the female horse, but has the stripes of a zebra.

As far as compatibility between the horse and the zebra, the horse has 64 chromosomes, and zebras depending on what species it is can have between 44 and 62 chromosomes. However when you breed these two animals and produce a Zorse it only has 63 chromosomes and is sterile.

The Zorse is not all that uncommon and can be easily bought if you have enough money for one of these weird animals. Most Zorse foals cost somewhere in the $10,000 range from what I hear, but is a Zorse is not rare enough for you there is always the Hebra.

The Hebra which is rarer than the Zorse is what you get when you breed a male horse with a female zebra. Either way these animals are neat to look at, but are not as easy to train and ride as a horse.

Strange Hybrid Animals - Zonkey

There are a lot of strange animals out there, but some of the weirdest animals are the hybrid animals that people create by breeding one type of animal with a similar but different breed of animal.

One such weird animals is a Zonkey. To get a Zonkey you have to breed a male zebra with a female donkey. One of the big differences between a zebra and a donkey are that zebras depending on the species have between 42 and 62 chromosomes, while all donkeys only have 62 chromosomes. When you breed these two animals to produce a Zonkey it has the possibility of having any number of chromosomes between 42 and 62.
